High-temperature superconductivity is a research topic with great application prospects and important scientific significance. This strategic research direction has been strongly supported by countries all over the world. During his PhD study, Xu Gang and his tutor Fang Zhong studied the electronic structure and magnetic phase diagram of LaOFeAs series materials according to the first-principles calculation. It was the first time that, the possible superconducting pairings mechanism of FeAs layer and its magnetic instability in iron-based superconductivity was identified. This work is in the basic position in the field of iron-based superconductivity research. The related papers were selected as “China's 100 Most Influential International Academic Papers in 2008” and currently cited more than 270 times.
