Project Description:

Topological quantum computation is one of the most important frontier fields of science and technology in current world. The discovery of topological superconductors (TSCs) and Majorana zero modes (MZMs) is the most difficult and hottest topic in this field. Based on the applicant's previous works on the topological superconductivity, this project will continue to focus on the "Computational design of topological superconductors". We will develop a general program to calculate the topological superconducting invariant in real materials, and propose two new strategies for the intrinsic TSCs. One is designing the metamaterials by intercalating the superconducting gene into suitable topological insulators, in which topological superconductivity can be realized. The other is to find the intrinsic superconductors that host topological crystalline gap at the Fermi level, which could give rise to novel topological superconductivity and multiple MZMs. We have done lots of investigation about these two proposals. Some candidate materials are calculated. Some positive results are obtained, and the technical route is made clear too. The project goal is to find 3 intrinsic TSCs with stable structures and promising application. More than 10 high quality papers will be published in international journals. Such studies could train about 5 outstanding master students and 3 outstanding PhD students.
